Oral Surgery
Expert surgical dental care with precision, safety, and patient comfort at the forefront.
What Is Oral Surgery?
Oral surgery encompasses surgical procedures involving the teeth, gums, and jawbone. These procedures range from routine tooth extractions to more complex surgical interventions like wisdom teeth removal, bone grafting, cyst removal, and pre-prosthetic surgery. Oral surgery is often necessary when non-surgical treatments cannot adequately address a dental problem.
At The Crown, all surgical procedures are performed using modern techniques, proper anesthesia, and strict sterilization protocols. Our state-of-the-art facility is equipped with advanced surgical instruments, digital imaging for precise planning, and comprehensive safety measures. Every surgical case is carefully planned — from pre-operative assessment through post-operative recovery — to ensure optimal outcomes and patient comfort.
Our surgical procedures are personally performed by Dr. Apurva Chaturvedi, whose MDS specialization in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics & Implantology gives him advanced training in oral surgical procedures. His expertise spans simple and surgical extractions, wisdom teeth removal, bone grafting for implant site preparation, and pre-prosthetic surgery — all performed with a patient-first approach that prioritizes comfort, safety, and predictable results. Whether you need a simple extraction or complex surgical intervention, you’re in expert hands at The Crown.
Surgical Procedures
Seven specialized oral surgery procedures — from routine extractions to advanced surgical interventions.
Simple Tooth Extraction
Straightforward removal of visible teeth using forceps. Performed under local anesthesia. Quick, routine procedure with minimal recovery time needed.
Surgical Extraction
For impacted or broken teeth below the gumline. Involves minor gum incision, bone removal if needed, and sutures. More complex than simple extraction.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Removal of third molars, often impacted or partially erupted. Most common oral surgical procedure. Can be simple or complex depending on impaction angle.
Bone Grafting
Augments jaw bone volume for implant placement. Builds lost bone using natural or synthetic graft material. Essential when bone has deteriorated after tooth loss.
Cyst / Tumor Removal
Surgical removal of pathological lesions, cysts, or tumors in the jaw or gums. Tissue sent for histopathology. Early removal prevents complications.
Frenectomy
Release of tongue tie or lip tie by removing restrictive frenum tissue. Improves speech, feeding, and oral function. Quick, minimally invasive procedure.
Pre-Prosthetic Surgery
Surgical preparation of the mouth for dentures or implants. May include bone reshaping, tissue removal, or ridge smoothing. Ensures optimal fit of prosthetics.

Wisdom Teeth Removal
The most common oral surgery procedure — everything you need to know about wisdom teeth.
What Are Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth (third molars) are the last teeth to erupt, usually between ages 17–25. Most people have four — two in the upper jaw and two in the lower. Because they emerge last, there’s often not enough space in the mouth for them to erupt properly, leading to impaction and various problems.
When to Remove
Wisdom teeth are removed preventively (before they cause problems) or after problems develop. Preventive removal is often recommended in young adults when recovery is faster and roots are not fully formed. If problems have started, removal becomes necessary.
Recovery Time
Typical recovery takes 3–7 days. The first 48 hours involve the most swelling and discomfort. Most people return to normal activities within a week. Complete healing of the extraction site takes 4–6 weeks.
Why They Cause Problems
What to Expect
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia (or sedation for anxious patients). Simple wisdom teeth take 20–30 minutes. Impacted teeth may require 45–90 minutes with minor bone removal. Sutures are placed to aid healing.
Watch for dry socket — a painful complication where the blood clot dislodges 2–3 days after extraction. Prevent it by avoiding smoking, spitting, straws, and vigorous rinsing for 48 hours. If you suspect dry socket, contact us immediately.

- Soft foods for 3–5 days
- Gentle brushing, avoid surgical site
- Take prescribed pain medication
- Sutures dissolve or removed in 7 days

Oral Surgery FAQs
Answers to the most common questions about oral surgical procedures.
No. Extractions are performed under local anesthesia, so you won’t feel pain — only pressure. Mild discomfort for 1–2 days after is normal and manageable with prescribed medication. Our painless dentistry protocol ensures a comfortable experience.
Recovery depends on the procedure: Simple extraction: 1–3 days. Surgical extraction: 3–7 days. Wisdom teeth: 3–7 days. Bone grafting: 1–2 weeks. Complete healing of the surgical site takes 4–6 weeks. Most people return to normal activities within a week.
Dry socket is a painful complication where the blood clot at the extraction site dislodges or dissolves, exposing bone and nerves. It causes severe pain 2–3 days after extraction. Prevent it by avoiding smoking, spitting, straws, and vigorous rinsing for 48 hours. If you suspect dry socket, contact us immediately.
Wisdom teeth should be removed when they’re impacted, causing pain, damaging adjacent teeth, causing recurrent infection, or if there’s insufficient space. Preventive removal in young adults (17–25) is often recommended as recovery is faster and roots are not fully formed. We’ll evaluate your wisdom teeth with X-rays and advise.
Wait until the anesthesia wears off (2–4 hours). Start with soft, cool foods — yogurt, ice cream, mashed potatoes, smoothies. Avoid hot, spicy, crunchy, and chewy foods for 3–5 days. Don’t use straws for 48 hours (suction can dislodge the clot). Gradually return to normal diet as healing progresses.
Simple extraction from ₹800, Surgical extraction from ₹2,000, Wisdom teeth from ₹3,000–₹8,000 depending on impaction level. Bone grafting from ₹5,000. EMI available. View full pricing.
Not always. Antibiotics are prescribed when there’s an active infection, compromised immune system, or complex surgical procedure. For routine extractions in healthy patients, antibiotics may not be needed. Dr. Apurva will decide based on your specific case and medical history.
Common risks include: bleeding, swelling, infection, dry socket, and nerve damage (rare, mainly lower wisdom teeth). These risks are minimized by choosing an experienced surgeon, following post-op instructions, and maintaining good oral hygiene. Dr. Apurva’s surgical expertise significantly reduces complication rates.
If you had only local anesthesia (no sedation), you can drive yourself home. If you received sedation, you must have someone drive you home and should not drive for 24 hours. We’ll discuss your anesthesia option during consultation and plan accordingly.
Prevent dry socket by: not smoking for 48+ hours, not using straws for 48 hours, not spitting vigorously, avoiding hot foods/drinks for 24 hours, and following all post-op instructions carefully. If you experience increasing pain 2–3 days after extraction, contact us immediately.
